WPL 2025: Asha Sobhana, Pooja Vastrakar to miss season; RCB, MI name replacements

India internationals Asha Sobhana and Pooja Vastrakar will miss the 2025 season of the Women’s Premier League owing to injuries. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians named replacements on Thursday.

Nuzhat Parween and Parunika Sisodia have been picked by RCB and MI respectively as replacements for the sidelined players.

Parween, the wicketkeeper from Railways has represented India in five T20Is and will join RCB for her base price of Rs. 30 lakh.

Parunika was picked by the Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the league. The left arm spinner pitched in with crucial breakthroughs during the recently concluded ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup and was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ in the semifinal against England. She joins MI for INR 10 lakh.

This comes as a huge blow to the Challengers’ title defence since Asha was the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps last season. The leggie from Kerala suffered a knee injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE.

RCB begins its campaign against Gujarat Giants on February 14 while MI faces two-time finalist Delhi Capitals the following day.
