Indians guaranteed seven medals
The 32nd Asian Junior Individual Championship 2025 has seen stellar performances from Indian squash players, with seven advancing to the semifinals, guaranteeing at least seven medals for India. In the last two editions, Indians won four medals each.

HOCKEY
Sub Junior Women National C’ship: HP, Assam, Karnataka, Manipur, Gujarat win on day 1
Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Manipur and Gujarat emerged winners on the opening day of the 15th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship in Ranchi on Thursday.
In the first match of the tournament, Himachal defeated Rajasthan 7-0 in Division ‘C’, while in the second match Assam beat Goa 7-1 in another match.
Telangana drew 2-2 draw against Jammu & Kashmir.
Karnataka defeated Kerala 3-1, while Manipur won 3-0 against Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in Division ‘B’ In the last match of the day, Gujarat blanked Bengal 3-0.

Smiriti Bhasin beats top seed
Smriti Bhasin knocked out the top seed Jacqueline Cabaj Awad of Sweden 6-2, 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Hillcrest, South Africa, on Thursday.
In the quarterfinals, Smriti will play Lexue Xiao of China.

Hitesh, Sakshi assure India two more medals at World Boxing Cup
Hitesh Gulia and Sakshi assured India of two more medals after securing the semifinal spots at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Thursday.
Hitesh, a gold medallist from the Brazil leg earlier this year, delivered a dominant 5:0 win over Kazakhstan’s Almaz Orozbekov in the men’s 70kg quarterfinal, ensuring another medal to his name.
In the women’s 54kg category, Sakshi put on a composed display to beat Brazil’s Tatiana Regina de Jesus Chagas via unanimous decision.
They thus joined guaranteed medallists Minakshi (48kg) and Pooja Rani (80kg), as well as Sanju (60kg), who confirmed a podium for herself on Wednesday after advancing to the semifinals.
Anamika (51kg) also remains in contention after reaching the quarters.
With several medals guaranteed and more boxers still in the mix, Team India’s campaign in Astana continues to build toward a strong finish ahead of the World Boxing Cup Finals in New Delhi.

Disappointing start for Indian women golfers in Irish Open
The Indian quartet got off to a disappointing start at the KPMG Irish Open and all of them will need a low second round effort to make the cut in a month that is full of high-profile events on the Ladies European Tour.
Tvesa Malik had the best score among the four with 1-over 74 at the par-73 Carton House golf course. She was lying on tied-86th, though a good number of players were yet to finish their opening round.
Diksha Dagar, who has ensured her place in the AIG Women’s Open, and rookie Avani Prashanth shot 2-over 75 each and were Tied-105th. Hitaashee Bakshi was 3-over through five holes.
