Benfica defender Alvaro Fernandez has said that he is very happy at the Portuguese club amid interest from Manchester United.
The Spaniard left the Red Devils to join Benfica on a permanent basis last summer and he has been a key player for them at left-back.
United have the option to re-sign him for £17m next year and it has been widely reported that the club could trigger the buy-back clause.
Amidst this, Fernandez has clarified that he is very happy at Benfica.
He said: “It is always nice to have teams call you and everyone wants to grow, but I am doing very well here. [Manchester] United have a signed purchase option, but I am very happy here.”
Aside from United, Liverpool are also monitoring his progress as they look to find a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson in their backline.
However, they are unlikely to get him on the cheap. The Reds will have to trigger his current release clause of £42m to bring him to Anfield.
