The 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will commence from February 14 with defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Gujarat Giants in Vadodara’s new BCA Stadium.
In the history of the WPL, there have only been five players who have taken five-wicket hauls over the course of the first two seasons of the domestic tournament.
Here’s a look at the players who have taken five-wicket hauls in the history of the Women’s Premier League:
Five-wicket hauls in WPL history
Ellyse Perry (RCB) – 6/15 vs Mumbai Indians on March 12, 2024
Marizanne Kapp (DC) – 5/15 vs Gujarat Giants on March 11, 2023
Asha Sobhana (RCB) – 5/22 vs UP Warriorz on February 24, 2024
Tara Norris (DC) – 5/29 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 5, 2023
Kim Garth (GG) – 5/36 vs UP Warriorz on March 5, 2023
How did they take the five-wicket hauls?
Ellyse Perry (RCB) – The Australian allrounder ran through MI’s batting order she took six consecutive wickets to help her side bundle out the opposition for 113 in 19 overs. Perry removed Sajeevan Sajana, Nat Sciver-Brunt, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, and Pooja Vastrakar.
Marizanne Kapp (DC) – The Proteas pacer removed the Gujarat Giants’ top-order. She began her fifer by removing Sabbhineni Meghana on just the second ball of the innings. Kapp then sent compatriot Laura Wolvaardt, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner, and Sushma Verma back.
Asha Sobhana (RCB) – The second-highest wicket-taker in last season’s WPL, Asha did well to restrict the flow of the runs by taking crucial wickets of a few settled UP Warriorz batters. Her scalps included those of Vrinda Dinesh, Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, Shweta Sehrawat, and Kiran Navgire.
Tara Norris (DC) – The first Associate nation player to play in the WPL, USA’s Norris also holds the distinction of taking the first-ever five-wicket haul in the tournament’s history. Against RCB, she removed Perry, Disha Kasat, Richa Ghosh, Heather Knight, and Kanika Ahuja.
Kim Garth (GG) – Hours after Norris took a fifer, Australia’s Garth justified Gujarat Giant’s decision to bring her in as Deandra Dottin’s replacement in 2023 after she took a fifer on her debut. She struck gold in her very first over, removing Warriorz openers Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat before also dismissing the dangerous Tahlia McGrath. Garth then sent Kiran Navgire and Simran Shaikh back off consecutive deliveries.
