Win at Somerset ‘big statement’, says Kent’s Daniel Bell-Drummond

Somerset, victors in each of their first five Blast games before Sunday, last won the competition in 2023, but have also been runners-up twice in the past four seasons.

“It is always a difficult place because they’re always at the top or close to winning this competition, so for us to win [there] is a big statement,” Bell-Drummond added.

“I was a bit slow to start but once I got going, everything I was hitting was finding gaps, going for four or six, so it was just one of those days.”

Bell-Drummond, who has spent his entire county career with Kent, attended Millfield public school in Somerset as a youngster after securing a scholarship to study there.

“It [Sunday] was a really proud day for me because I went to school down the road and I’ve got a lot of friends there who are basically my family,” he added.

“It was great having them all down [to watch]. It’s almost my second home so I was really proud to win in front of old friends and teachers.”

Kent next welcome Gloucestershire to the Spitfire Ground on Wednesday evening.
