Uncapped Indian players stole the show in the WPL mini auction which happened in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Four of the top-five most expensive players in the auction were uncapped Indian players.
Simran Shaikh emerged as the costliest buy in the mini auction, with the Mumbai batter being signed up by Gujarat Giants for a staggering Rs. 1.90 crore.
Simran previously represented the UP Warriorz but had an underwhelming run with the franchise in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023. In nine matches, she managed only 29 runs with a highest score of 11. She went unsold in the 2024 auction.
West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin was the most expensive overseas player in the auction after she was acquired by the Giants for Rs. 1.70 crore.
Dottin was signed for Rs 60 lakh by Gujarat Giants before the inaugural WPL season. However, the franchise released her days before the first edition began in 2023, a development that stirred controversy.
Tamil Nadu all-rounder G Kamalini was signed by Mumbai Indians for an eye-popping price of Rs. 1.60 crore.
The 16-year-old Kamalini was the second-top scorer in the U19 Women’s T20 Trophy with 311 runs in eight games, as she helped Tamil Nadu win the title in October. What stood out was her six-hitting ability, with the left-handed batter tallying 10 maximums in the tournament.
