WPL 2025: UP Warriorz buys Australian leggie Alana King for Rs. 30 Lakh

Australian legspinner Alana King was roped in by UP Warriorz for her base price of Rs. 30 Lakh in the auction for the 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League.

The Melbourne-born cricketer has Indian ancestry, with her parents migrating to Australia from Chennai. She was part of Australia’s Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning side, 2022 ODI World Cup champion team and 2023 T20 World Cup-winning outfit.

She had played in the Indian T20 setup before, having represented Supernovas in the now defunct Women’s T20 Challenge, the exhibition tournament that preceded the WPL. She did not find any takers for the first two editions of the league.

She joins her national team captain Alyssa Healy in the Warriorz setup and will be part of an solid spin trio featuring Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma.
