Australia’s Steve Smith broke the record for scoring the most runs in Tests by a visiting batter at Lord’s Cricket Ground during the opening day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa.
Smith went past Australian Warren Bardsley’s tally of 575 runs at the Home of Cricket to achieve the feat. During his half-century, he also surpassed legendary batter Don Bradman, who had amassed 551 runs in eight innings at Lord’s.
The 36-year-old has three fifties and two centuries at the iconic venue, with a highest score of 215, which came during the second Ashes Test against England in 2015.
Smith’s knock helped Australia recover from a precarious 67 for four after South African seamers Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen wreaked havoc.
Part-time spinner Aiden Markram eventually dismissed Smith for 66, ending his 79-run partnership with all-rounder Beau Webster.
